Honouring the Dead

As soon as the whole situation had been calmed down (when the injured had been taken care of and Wright had recovered from the PSI attack), the soldiers decided to move into the old X-Com base.

From the outside, it did not seem to be very large, only a quite small door was visible with a worn out sign saying "Military Property - Keep Out". There were also the remnants of a keycard lock but it was since long out of order. Jason Freed slowly opened the door. Inside there was an elevator door as well as a door leading to some staircases. As the functionality of the keycard lock had not impressed either Freed or Roberts, who had followed soon after, they used the staircase door instead. After them, the other team members followed. Kirov and Davies stayed outside to keep watch.

As the staircases ended, an entirely different base met the soldiers - it was huge. Here and there was a rotting corpse of an old X-Com soldier, they all had small nametags made out of gold hanging round their necks. Wright made sure that all the nametags were collected. The squad split up to search the base individually.

After a while there was a scream of joy coming from near one of the enormous hangars. All soldiers came running.
Christopher Belial was standing and just pointing into a room, the doors to the room had been severed, probably by plasma shots, and what was inside could be clearly seen. A sign over the door clearly said "X-COM: Equipment Storage". If the team members would have cared about looking what the sign over the hangar door said and if they would have cared about looking into the hangar. They would have seen that the hangar was completely empty and that the sign over the door said "XCOM: AVENGER ONE".

The equipment storage was not completely full, most of the more heavy weaponry had been taken into combat by the last remaining X-COM soldiers defending the base and therefor recovered by alien forces after the battle. However, the team found a lot of useful things. To start with, new plasma rifles were found, those looked almost exactly as the alien ones already recovered with the difference that the ammunition gauge was composed of digital numbers instead of the alien colour system. Therefor, the team took those new plasmas with them along with all ammunition for them that could be found, it was not much but at least it was something.

Wright took a few steps into the storage. In front of him there was a quite large crate. Using the some metal shrapnel that had been lying on the ground since the X-COM base was overtaken by aliens, he forced the crate open. He looked into the crate. He was met by something that was shining blue. It was a personal armour. In another crate he found yet another one. He turned to Alkaviades.

"We're gonna have to repaint those if we want to stay alive." he said as he noticed the small X-COM insignia on the front plate of the armour.

Alkaviades did not listen very carefully at the moment. He just stood still with a strange device in his hands. Samusenko and Redac also stood still, just observing the thing in Alkaviades' hands. Alkaviades pushed a button and the core of the thing started to pulsate in purple colours. Alkaviades smiled and nodded as he looked at Wright.

"Sir. This is a fully functional Psi-Amp. A Psionic Amplifier."

Back at the main camp, it had been a few days since the discovery of the X-COM base. The team had been forced to leave quite quickly out of fear for new alien forces arriving. Alkaviades was now sitting on a small stone looking quite angry as Davies walked by.

"What's the matter captain?" Davies asked.

Alkaviades looked up.

"It's this thing with the Psi
